The Shrode Fine Art and Craft Competition and Exhibition is an annual exhibit open to all artists 18 years of age and older living in southern Illinois, south of Interstate 70, including Charleston, IL. Artists may enter a variety of media including painting, drawing, printmaking, clay, fiber, mixed media, wood, fine jewelry, metal, and sculpture. There are five prestigious awards: Best of Show ($400), Best of 2-Dimensional ($250), Best of 3-Dimensional ($250), 2 Honorable Mention ($175 each), and 4 Merit Certificates. This year 232 works of art were submitted for judging. 61 works were chosen for this year’s exhibition by Stefanie Kirkland, our guest judge.

Stefanie Jacobson Kirkland moved to St. Louis, MO in 2005 from San Francisco where she received her MFA in Painting from the Academy of Art College. She received her undergraduate degree in Surface Pattern Design and Art History from Syracuse University in New York.  Between her undergraduate and graduate programs, she was a professional textile designer in New York City and attended New York’s Arts Student League to continue studying art.

Stefanie has been with Craft Alliance Center of Art + Design in St. Louis, MO, since 2005 and is currently the Director of Exhibitions and Artists-In-Residence Programs. She manages the entire exhibition programming from conceptualization to finalization. As the the Director of the Artists-In-Residence Program her responsibilities include recruiting artists, marketing the program, coordinating program events and opportunities for the artists. Stefanie acts as mentor to the artists and helps them navigate their careers as an exhibiting artist.
