African American History Month Celebration 2019

A collaboration between Cedarhurst Center for the Arts and Mt. Vernon City Schools, District 80

Program Sponsors: Hassakis and Hassakis, P.C. | George and Paula (Mace) Kuhn | Kevin and Cheryl Settle

“I Dream A World”

This year’s goal is to raise awareness of the importance of women’s roles in African American
History. This broad focus will include historic women who fought against slavery, and
contemporary figures who helped make a difference during the civil rights movement, as well as
current social issues. Their stories will be told through art, music and language arts subjects.
Throughout the month of February educators will not only cover famous women in history, but
also the importance of women in our daily lives who are positive, strong, role models. All of
these figures make an impact every day in the lives of boys and girls and our community.
